Filipino may refer to the citizen of Philippines in Southeast Asia. It can also mean the people of Philippine descent. Filipino usually refers to male, and the term for female is Filipina. Other terms for that Filipinos and Filipinas use to refer to themselves are Pinoy and Pinay.
Filipinos are a part of Malay race. By the mid 16th century, Philippines were conquered by Spain, Many of Filipino culture is based on the influence from Mexican and Spanish. Indian and Chinese cultures also have important influence for Filipinos’ culture.
Even though most of Philippine’s neighbors are Muslim’s country, Philippine is the Christian country because of the Spanish colonization. There are over eighty three percent of Roman Catholic. Filipino Muslims make about five percent of the population. Although there are one hundred and seventy language spoken in Philippine, Tagalog is the main language of the country.
