Why? One of the reasons is because Japanese food is healthy. In fact, Japanese food has become a very big part of Western culture. More and more westerners eat Japanese food everyday.
Japanese table manners are different from Western table manners. For instance, Japanese use chopsticks to eat their food. Using chopsticks properly may not be easy for many Westerners. The table manners for eating noodles are also different. For the West, it is unacceptable to make noise by slurping noodles. It is considered to be very rude. On the hands, you are almost expected to make slurp, when you eating noodles in Japan. Slurping sounds show that you enjoy the food.
A standard Japanese food is usually consisted of a bowl of rice and soup. Because Japan is an island, it is no surprise why Japanese eats so much seafood. Japanese vegetable dishes are usually seasoned with ubiquitous dashi stock.
When you start eating Japanese food, it is customary to say “itadakimasu” which means “ I shall eat.” At the end of the meals, you should say “gochiso-sama deshita” which means “That was a feast” in English.
