If you go to any local temple or shrine in Thailand, you are bound to come across Buddha images, saffron robe clad monks and a prevailing sense of divinity, peace, and calm.
Buddha, the Enlightened One, was an Indian prince. He was born in 560 BC and his name was Siddharth Gautama. At a young age, he left his wife and children in search of salvation and enlightenment. He underwent severe hardships and his words of wisdom are revered as invaluable preachings by his devotees and followers. Buddhism teaches about the truth of suffering and the cause of suffering, the truth of eliminating suffering, and the eight-fold truth of the path.
Buddhism revolves around the central belief that karma is responsible for deciding one’s life. In other words, a better or an unfortunate life is based on one’s karma. It is like the saying ‘an eye for an eye’ that is if you do good, you will beget good and if you sin then you will receive hardships.
If you visit Thailand, make sure that you visit the temples to get the omnipresent feel of Buddhism. There is a serene charm to these temples that instantly puts your mind at peace. Also, make sure that you are suitable dressed and that you remove your shoes before entering the temple. This is to avoid hurting the sentiments of the peace-loving Thais.
