The headgear of peasants are called, “ Khan Dong). It is usually a piece of cloth wrapped around the head. Commoners and peasants usually do not wear shoes. Only the upper class or royalty were allowed to wear sandals and shoes.
Only the king had the right to wear color of gold. The noble could wear purple of red. Because the rule of colors often changed from time to time, the Vietnamese costumes were quite diverse.
Vietnamese national costume is called, “ Ao Dai”. It is usually worn by women. However, men may wear it on special occasion. Ao Dai looks like long Chinese gown. Many high schools in Vietnam require the student to wear Ao dai as the uniform. Some offices in Vietnam are also required their workers to wear Ao dai as the uniform.
Vietnamese Clothing Styles today are replaced by Western clothing styles. People will only wear traditional clothing on special occasion.
